Imaging Instructions
You are certainly welcome to bring x-rays in from another facility for your Initial Office Consultation Visit, and prior to your Bracing Visit for pre-bracing curve measurement. If you do so, please follow the following protocol:
- Make arrangements to have the facility that takes your imaging, follow the instructions for taking the specific views that are required by SpineCorporation for the SpineCor protocol (see below);
- Make arrangements to have the facility that takes your imaging, run off a CD or DVD copy of your imaging, or hard copies of your images, and then either drop them off at our office, or mail or courier them to our office, so we receive them at our facility a minimum of 3 days prior to your Initial Office Consultation Visit, so that your curve(s) can be measured accurately and classified.
X-RAY EVALUATION STANDARDIZATION
INSTRUCTIONS TO THE X-RAY TECHNICIAN
The standardized foot position is recommended for the x-ray evaluation for the following reasons:
- It keeps the posture natural and standardized from visit to visit.
- It allows direct comparison of frontal and lateral radiographs.
- It keeps the posture the same for the radiological, postural and clinical evaluation.
- It promotes inter-session reliability.
- Since the SpineCor approach uses postural modifications, the natural position of the patient in the template allows evaluation of the efficiency of the brace.

In order to take a standing frontal P/A x-ray:
- Put the template parallel to the cassette.
- Put the shield on the patient to cover the gonads.
- Ask the patient to put their heels into the corners of the foot template.
- Ask the patient to point their thumbs to their shoulders and slightly abduct the elbows (30º).
- Ask the patient to look straight ahead.
- Verify that the exposed area includes the spine from C5 to S1 and the outer one-third of the iliac crests (to evaluate the Risser sign).
- When taking the x-ray, ask the patient to hold their breath but not to deeply inhale since it would alter their posture.
In order to take a standing lateral x-ray:
- Put the template perpendicular to the cassette.
- Put the shield on the patient to cover the gonads.
- Ask the patient to put their heels into the corners of the foot template.
- Ask the patient to point their thumbs to their shoulders and slightly abduct the elbows (30º).
- Ask the patient to look straight ahead.
- Verify that the exposed area includes the spine from C5 to S1.
- When taking the x-ray, ask the patient to hold their breath but not to deeply inhale since it would alter their posture.
IMPORTANT !:
- Do not position any part of the patient's body (pelvis, shoulders).
- Do not use the shields for the breasts (not to modify the shoulders' position).
- Do not lean the patient against the wall, cassette or foam spacer.
- If taking an in brace x-ray, do not modify patient's posture; it is important that the brace controls it.
In order to take a supine x-ray:
- Ask the patient to lie down on their back (supine) on the table.
- Put the shields for the breasts and the gonads.
- Make sure the exposed area will comprise the entire spine from C5 to S1.
- Ask the patient to put their head straight and to look straight.
- When taking the x-ray, ask the patient to hold their breath but not to deeply inhale since it would alter their posture.
